Can you get rich investing in Uber?
The company is privately owned by a relatively small number of investors. Besides the Co-Founders, Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp, most of real money invested in Uber came from Angels, VC’s, Broker Dealers and about $3.5 billion from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (https://www.crunchbase.com/organ…). Unless you are among those types of investor’s you can’t invest in Uber, much less get rich.
The real question is when and if Uber goes public through an IPO will you get rich? The answer is unknown. Facebook shares went public at $38 on May 18, 2012. The price fell steadily to about $18 in September 2012. Then, began to slowly recover. By September 9, 2016 Facebook shares were trading at about $127.
Not all hopeful IPO’s workout. Twitter went public in 2013 and GoPro went public in 2014. Both are trading below their IPO price, as of September 9, 2016.
Not to be too blunt, but if you have to ask the question maybe an investment in Uber is not right for you.
